How it Works: 2. How we select tracks
Each of our A&R team has absolute creative freedom on what they select to go on their playlists.
We do however set some guidelines, aimed at giving you, our listeners, the best possible experience:
- Artists with less than 100,000 followers on Spotify. That may seem like a high number, but to put it in context, Ed Sheeran has over 100 million. Even Milli Vanilli has nearly a million.
- Arrange the playlist like an album – 45 minutes, with the tracks in an order that makes it feel like it should be played end to end.
Each of our A&R team has a different approach to finding tracks to add, but one thing they all agree on – they listen to several hundred songs for every one they add (so you don’t have to!)
You may see artists on our lists with over 100k listeners. This may be because the playlist curator just had to have that track on the list, but hopefully it is because the artist’s following has grown since we added them – either we picked a rising star, or maybe even contributed to their success.
Artists do not (cannot) pay to go on these curator lists. They can however be featured in other ways by becoming a Patreon sponsor.
